Hello, everyone, and I’d like to say “HELLO” and “WELCOME” to all of the new members and old members of our Support Group! I hope everyone is having a marvelous Monday.
The weather is getting cooler and we are thinking about getting a pumpkin or two. Making pumpkin pie is also an option. Cooking is definitely NOT one of my strong points, but we all have to start somewhere!
Cooking can be fun, and I am trying to find that fun again. I’d rather bake, but if you want to live a healthier lifestyle, I think this is the way to go.
We started cooking and baking in Occupational Therapy when I “graduated” from inpatient therapy to outpatient therapy. We would go to the store and pick out ingredients we needed for the recipe. Just finding the correct isles to LOCATE the ingredients was a feet in itself!
Following the cooking instructions is another momentous task. It takes concentration, memory, and awareness. If you have to slice, chop up items, and turn on the stove, you are in a completely different environment. I remember one time I got all of the ingredients, did all of the chopping and stirring and mixing, and I went to put the pan in the over, but I was going to put it in the hot oven with my BARE HANDS! My occupational therapist stopped me in time, but what if she wasn’t there? If she wasn’t there, I guess I would have found out very quickly that the oven was on. You live and learn, and I did learn.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! That is, do not try to cook or bake at home if your doctor or any other health professionals/therapists advise you not to such things.
With that said, who likes to cook/bake? Do you prefer one over the other? What are some of the steps you use to prepare? What works FOR YOU? What is your FAVORITE THING TO MAKE/BAKE?
God bless you and remember to make your MONDAY MARVELOUS!
